I’m running for school board because I believe strongly in the power and promise of our public schools.

I’m Marcus Mrowka, and I’m running for another term to represent Camden on our school board.

As a school board member, I’m guided by what’s best for students, supportive of educators, and fair to taxpayers. I have more than a decade of experience working in education at the local, state, and national level, and I’m able to draw on that experience to support our students and schools.

I currently serve as the communications director for the Maine Department of Education and before that I was the communications director for the American Federation of Teachers. It’s no exaggeration to say that public education made me—it was the safe place full of supportive adults I needed, along with teaching me the skills and knowledge I needed to secure a better life. I’ve dedicated my career to ensuring that our public schools are strong, supported, and offer all students the opportunities they need to thrive. I will always view as our educators as important partners to help all students achieve their dreams.

Being on the school board is an honor and a joy. I hope I can count on your support for re-election on June 13.

Our Schools Are Hubs of Innovative Teaching and Learning

Families move to Camden for our schools, and educators come from across the country to teach here. I stepped up to run for school board in 2020, during the height of the pandemic. As a board, we worked with administrators and health experts to safely reopen schools that fall. And since then, we’ve supported efforts to expand outdoor learning, increase mental health supports, introduce nature-based pre-K, expand engaging interdisciplinary and project-based learning, increase sustainability efforts, support the educators and school staff who serve our students, and so much more.

With our new strategic plan, which I helped develop alongside parents, students, and educators, our school community will continue to lead through a focus on experiential learning, wellbeing, sustainability, adapting to a changing world, and equity—especially for students who need our support the most. I’m running for another term to continue this work.

An Active and Committed Leader.

For me, being on the board is more than just attending a monthly meeting. I’m an active board member and I try to attend every graduation, performance, ceremony, and event as well seeking out opportunities to be in our schools interacting with students and educators. I’m currently vice-chair of the Five Town CSD Board, chair of the finance committee, and serve on the curriculum, policy, and strategic planning committees. I’m also on the board of the Mid-Coast School of Technology.
